* * * * *
SIX YEARS BEFORE
University has a funny way of making you feel like you might never cross the finish line. Y/n like everyone else had multiple days where she would just sob and scream from the stress of it all. Exams were totally a torture device.
When Y/n graduated with her first degree before deciding to write her thesis Harry surprised her.
He’d been touring the world with One Direction for months now and she hadn’t seen him since Paris the year before, when he’d surprised her by flying her to join them in their Paris show and they’d had a wild few drunken nights that she felt blurred the lines of friendship into something more.
But after their few days, when the champagne ran out, and she came back home, she sobered and realised that nothing would ever happen between them. And if you spent a few nights with Harry in a limo drinking champagne and dealing with his wandering hands you too would fall for him. Just a bit. It's only natural.
She missed him, though, loads. He was one of her best friends after all.
Around a month ago they phoned each other, it was late for her and the morning for him, she’d been studying and they talked for hours catching up till the sky turned bright for her and her eyes drooped shut. The time between their phone calls had grown longer and longer now, and she missed him. She’d mentioned that she was graduating soon and that they were both supposed to be graduating if he’d stayed in Uni. She remembers them staying up late at parties discussing their futures and how post-graduation Harry was insistent that they’d still be roommates. She realised now that their dream definitely wasn’t a possibility anymore.
He’d told her that instead of being there graduating like they’d suspected he was going to be, he was in Rome at some fashion show gala thing, and his date was this sexy model named Rosalie who had her sex tape leaked a couple of months ago. She was happy for him, but a part of her couldn’t help but be disappointed. She felt like he was drifting away from her every day, but she couldn’t find in herself to be cross with him. He was swept up by the fame of it all, and how on earth could she be mad that he was literally a rockstar? She knew that he was still Harry and she was still Y/n but they weren’t Harry and Y/n anymore. Not like before.
And honestly, she’d probably leave everything and everyone behind, party all night, and sleep with sexy models too if she had the chance to be famous. But she couldn’t sing for shit. So instead she did what she was doing, and shoved her nose in a book rather than in lines off a bathroom sink, and she was rather content with the peacefulness of it all.
All thoughts of Harry were swept away from her mind when she walked across the stage in the grande hall. She was finally graduating! Thank god! She thought. She had a sash that showed she was an honours student, and she was blooming with pride, when they called her name her list of achievements was longer than the four painful years she’d spent studying in their grande libraries. She was so glad to shake the hand of one of her favourite professors and leave, the next year ahead she planned to travel and work overseas, she was excited about that.
But honestly, she was even more excited to get absolutely shit-faced at the graduation after-ball party. She found herself a few pints down, sitting by the edge of one of the fountains, when she nearly fell in at the absolutely shocking sight in front of her.
There was just no way it could be true. I mean he was in Rome, and she was drunk in London. She’d seen photos on her Twitter of him wrapping his tattooed arms around that Rosalie model girl, so how could he be here in London just like that? It was not real, surely. She must be hallucinating and the second-hand smoke of all the spliffs had finally got to her brain. But suddenly the man turned around and Jesus Christ it was him. It was Harry. His eyes were pinched as he searched the crowd and when he finally saw her they lit up, all green like a forest, and his mouth kicked up into that devilish grin of his.
He saw her dumb-struck expression and laughed softly walking toward his best friend. He was dressed in a suit jacket like everyone else, and since they were all drunk none of them noticed it was the Harry Styles of the One Direction AKA the biggest band in the world. To them, he was just some random twat who just graduated too.
His hair had grown all long and curly, and he just looked so much more like a man than when he’d left. Had he gotten taller? More strong? The arms of his jacket strained and Y/n sighed at the sight of him.
She didn't think she'd changed much, but Harry thought she looked even more beautiful than before, if possible.
When he stood right in front of her, her mouth was still wide in utter shock. “What the fuck are you doing here?”
He laughed. “Is that all you hafta’ say? Come on, hug your best friend!”
She sprang up from her seat and the silky long dress, which was a teal blue colour. All smooth and tight on her skin was hiked up slightly. Her gown and cap were long gone, as she wrapped her arms around his neck and shoulders. He lifted her up off the floor and spun them around.
She smelt like peaches and sweetness, and God, he could've stayed holding her for weeks.
She giggled and felt her face hurt from smiling so big. “Oh my God, I can’t believe you!”
When he placed her down, his hands did not leave the curve of her waist. “Surprise, babe.”
“What the- shit- I thought you were in Rome! How’d you even get here?” She asked
He smiled. “I was, got a flight this afternoon. It was the only one coming home, sorry for missing the graduation part.”
She just smiled up at him. “You’re crazy.”
He shook his head landing a hand on her shoulder. “I knew how important it was to you, and I missed you. Sue me.”
She laughed, eyes welling with slight tears. Maybe he wasn’t drifting too far from her after all. “Oh, god, don’t make me cry, you know how I get after a few pints, H.”
He laughed, arms outstretched for her to cuddle him. “Aw, pet, c’mere.”
She smacked his chest playfully but cuddled him nonetheless. “Let’s go get royally fucked, mate,” She whispered and they pulled apart, hands interlocking as she lead him off to one of the pubs where everyone was buying drinks.
It was called The Ducks Nuts.
A few of her mates were inside. Ones Harry didn’t know, but she’d already spent a good portion of the night with them. So she told them her old friend had surprised her and they’d be here and there.
Harry ordered them some shots and eventually the night was just a blur of hands touching each other, as they got so drunk Y/n felt her world spinning. They’d hopped around multiple different pubs and bars and Y/n was so tired. Her heels itched her feet with pain and she ripped them off, along with her bag. As they walked with little purpose she threw her things at him and began to dance in the middle of the road.
Harry was holding her things as she danced in the street showing her best Elton John impression, and he silently decided that was what made her so perfect. She was just herself. And he loved that about her, he loved everything about her.
He laughed and told her what a realistic impression it was, and how they’d met at some award show to back up that comment. She was infinitely jealous, she loved Elton.
On her way back toward him she landed in his arms after losing her footing he shook his head at her.
“You are very drunk, Lovie. Aren't ya'?" He said, in a soft tone one that made her tummy turn in flips.
She sighed as they walked in a direction with no destination in mind. “You aren’t drunk enough, you need to get on my level.”
He noticed her shiver under his arm and quickly ripped his coat off. It swallowed her form and she smiled gratefully hugging the coat around herself. It felt like a warm embrace, and that smell filled her nose and suddenly she was home in her old flat with him, home in Holmes Chapel, home with him. Just home.
“Smells good.” She giggled as she sniffed the shoulder pad, her cheek brushing against the soft material all dog-like. “N’ soft too.”
“Why thanks, it’s Gucci.” He replied.
She rolled her eyes. “Come on then, money-bags, let’s get you as drunk as me.”
They strolled into a tavern near her flat and drank so much tequila that they had to practically carry each other home.
As Harry looked up at the stars and moon, feeling the cool air nip her skin he sighed. He hadn’t gotten this drunk, and been this happy in such a long time. He was giggling contently, as she leaned into him and he silently wished that the night would never end.
He never wanted his time with her to end either. He loved spending time with her, whether they were on an adventure or doing nothing at all. Y/n made it worthwhile.
When they reached the shitbox of a flat she lived in Harry followed calmly behind her, and when one of her neighbours spat a comment about drunken youths he sighed, “I wish you would’ve taken up my offer,”
She looked up at him as she played with the jammy door that never seemed to open on the first try. Shoving her shoulder into it as she managed to finally wedge it open, stumbling inside ungracefully.
And with a roll of her eyes, she ushered him inside. “There is zero chance I’d let my all-of-sudden bazillionaire rockstar friend buy me a flat, just cause he can afford shoes worth more than my entire life savings. Anyway, how could I ever pay it back? I have two p to my name and a packet of noodles in my possessions, Harry.”
He laughed. “Think of it as a graduation present then,”
She sighed. “Just shut up and sit down, and I’ll get some wine.”
It was almost 4AM now, and neither cared. They were beyond drunk, but Y/n missed him and if force-feeding him wine would get him to spend a whole 24 hours with her, she totally would.
When she sat down with two mugs spilling with a cherry red wine, that was the cheapest shit she’d ever bought, Harry laughed. Her wobbly legs forced her to land awkwardly on one thigh practically on top of his. He smiled, one that showed his kind eyes.
Green pools of emerald she wished to swim in for eternity. She laughed at the thought, she really got poetic when she was drunk, huh?
“God, remind me to get you drunk more often.” He whispered.
She sighed. “Oh shut up, and fill me in on life then. Who are you shagging?”
He looked at her pointedly. “Who are you shagging?”
A blush crept up her neck, and suddenly the only secret she had kept from him was threatening to slip past her drunken red-stained lips.
“None of your business, but there’s this hot guy in my physics who I would totally shag,”
He laughed, but underneath it, he felt a jealousy creep up his spine, he knew he had no right since he’d been balls deep in two Italian models this morning, turns out threesomes are a really good cure for hangovers by the way. But despite that, he felt an itch he couldn’t scratch that resembled something pretty close to jealousy.
“What’s he like?” Harry asked.
She shrugged. “Dunno, tall, glasses, got that whole nerdy silent thing going for him.”
“That’s what you like then, silent types?” He asked, running a hand through his long curls, and she reached out to play with one.
She shook her head, and said distractedly, “I don’t know.”
“Makes sense why you never dated me then.”
During primary school, Harry dated every girl in their class including Daisy and Penny, except Y/n who told him she didn’t fancy him. It was an ongoing topic of discussion between them. Why wasn't he good enough? He always asked.
She laughed at that comment. “I know you too well for that, and I get the unfiltered you, and I lived with you which was basically like being married to you. We bickered too much to ever date, Haz.”
He looked at her with hooded eyes, and for some reason that stung, but trying to be light-hearted he said. “Never say never, what if we needed to repopulate the earth?”
She looked over at him and placed a hand on his and kissed his cheek, all soft and slow, and for a moment he thought she might actually kiss him for real but instead, she said. “There’ll be no hope for humanity then.”
He sighed, fake pouting before a couple of minutes of silence passed and he turned to her and said. “Come with me to Brazil.”
Her eyes widened, “What?"
“I leave tomorrow night, come with me.” He said.
She frowned. “What? Come with you? You can't be serious.”
He nodded. “Please? I miss you! And we can party for a whole week together, or sleep, or do whatever the fuck you want! Just come, pack a bikini and something sparkly, and I’ll take care of the rest.”
Y/n and Harry did end up going to Brazil but that’s a story for another time.
She stood up from the couch holding her hand out to him, and he slid his into hers. Cool rings grazing the soft skin of her palm.
“Let’s just go to sleep, you're talking like a crazy person.” She said, softly pushing a lock of his hair away from his eyes.
He sighed at her, “But m’ serious, Love.”
“Alright, ask me again tomorrow. That is if you even remember...now come on, let’s listen to Fleetwood Mac and sleep until tomorrow evening.”
Y/n's room was cosy and welcoming. Harry felt his eyes droop at the sight. A tiny lamp shining over them in an orange glow, her cot-like bed covered in blankets and the scent of her likely covering those sheets.
That night they slept in Y/n’s twin bed, cuddling, with Stevie Nicks serenading them to sleep. Cheeks plump and pink from too much alcohol, hands wandering scandalously, and the love in air was thick and obvious.
Before Y/n fell asleep she pecked his lips, in a quick kiss, one that it barely even touched him and said, “Night, mate,”
His lips burned like wildfire, and from that night on, he did think humanity had a chance if it was up to them. Whether or not she believed that.
“Night, Love.”
i have been a bit slack with updates lately...second year of uni is crazy and im already soooo busy, but i missed them and i wanted to write a lil sum for y'all until my next proper update :) BIG LOVEEEE

Gosh it’s so flattering that people want to know more about me!  Now you wouldn’t expected these to be loaded questions, but let me preface this by saying that I’m an absolute mess when it comes to college.  I do nothing normally.  Sleep is nonexistent.  My advisors are going to stab me in my sleep. Come with me while I take you on the wild, dysfunctional rollercoaster that is Media’s College Misadventures™
Now I like a lot of things in an abstract sort of way.  I love cooking and baking.  I used to do a lot of overseas work with genetics and animals.  I’ve always been fascinated by the brain in the sort of vague way most people are. But this doesn’t sell, so I went into my freshman year an Economics/CS major as prep work to take over the family business!    Please for the love of god don’t follow in my footsteps but I spent the last two years of high school running with a dangerously fun crew whose blood was 80% vodka and 20% bad decisions and we all somehow got into our top universities.  Out of sheer notgivingafuckness I put all the top universities I got into in a hat and just picked one.  The next morning I woke up with no recollection of the previous day and a thank-you email from the college I apparently accepted.  I was very drunk, yet I regret nothing. This college decided the best course of action would be to send me to Ireland for my first year where I immediately proceeded to make friends with all my professors and go drinking with them after class every day.  They showed me pizza clubs and these really fancy underground bars for the Irish elite, I think one of my best memories was going to a gay bar in the back alleys of southside Dublin with my economic perspectives prof then drunk stumbling over to this game shop at 2AM to learn to play magic with these very confused guys that readily accepted us as their new best friends. I learned absolutely nothing.  If you’re wondering just how much of a mess I was the dean of the entire fucking university knew me as the girl that was always asleep on the floor between classes with this dude who looked like the human version of Animal from The Muppets guarding my stuff.  The dean would go to this chocolatiers place across the street and get a few chocolate treats with his morning coffee to put in my hungover, asleep fish hand for when I woke up.  That man was a goddamn delight and I still talk to him to this day. A lot of things happened in Ireland that I will happily tell ya’ll if you want!  Just as an overview during these few months we also: got tazed repeatedly because we lived in gang territory (thanks uni for putting us there!!), watched our friend get kidnapped overnight from our favorite club (he was fine), got the entire country of America banned from several bars on our street, got accepted by the gang that terrorized us for the first two months, watched as on Halloween our entire apartment building got set on fire by said gang and we just went outside to drink beer with them while our advisor was having a nervous breakdown, and many, many bad decisions on my part.   After a few months we all got shipped back to the actual campus back in the states where things all went downhill.  My advisor straight up quit in my first week and I never got reassigned so I was just this poor tiny freshman stuck in upper-level classes with very confused and sympathetic seniors.  Halfway into the second semester one of my profs, the head of the whole econ department, started hitting on me.  If you’ve ever had the wonderful experience of being A Female In College ™ you know the type.  The ones that lean in a little too close, smile a little too wide when they see you.  So I said hell no and switched out of the major before the semester had even ended Into my second year, I was just taking classes aimlessly for a while picking new majors every few weeks while my advisors prayed for my demise.  I dabbled in psychology and sociology until I realized it was just memorizing terminology (but I made a friend in intro and together we both completed a minor in it just to hang out).  There was a very short-lived stint in biology for a while.  I dipped my fingers into Neuroscience for as long as they’d tolerate me.  Mathematics wasn’t too interesting without a double.  I ended up joining a lot of clubs and my main one was an engineering club (my uni is engineering-focused, rip me) but none of the facets of engineering interested me. Following from my long laundry list of good decisions I decided to just start befriending more professors and to aimlessly take their classes instead.  Long story short I accidentally completed a full B.S. in Philosophy of Science my sophomore year after overloading courses and being bored as all hell so a friend of mine, one of the top profs in the department, asked me to take his new upper-level quantum course so I said yes if he’d wave the prereqs and oop it turned out to be a senior thesis course and then I was all done with that major. I hadn’t made university hours so the beginning of my third year I was just taking mathematics and a few other courses while my advisors breathed down my neck ready to murder me.  They wanted me gone so bad, man, ya’ll have no idea.  I’m not even mentioning all the times I raised absolute hell on campus we just focusing on my major-based misadventures right now. Okay, so part of my university is something called co-op: a mandatory work experience period where students take semesters off at a time to do paid work in the field of their choice.  I hadn’t really any set majors at the time except for whatever bullshit showed up on my degree audit so I started searching for my 4-6 month co-op just to get it out of the way. Unfortunately for everybody involved, I interview extremely well and look good on paper.  I look damn good in a suit too and like to entertain when they’re supposed to be grilling me, so nobody stood a chance. I applied to the most ridiculous jobs I could find.  I was not qualified for any of it.  I got accepted to 90% of what I applied to. Out of notgivingafuckness pt2 I decided to give myself to the highest bidder which is how I ended up working for a defense contracting company that liked my coding background and how I just kinda roll with whatever’s going on.  So on the cusp of the covid pandemic I was working in security and dispatch for a major city hall that controlled the police department, fire, sanitation, everything under the sun.   I was so bad at my job, but I was enjoying it and that was everybody else’s problem.  When covid really started up and they let me go with 6 months full pay I immediately switched into PoliSci/Cyber and that’s where I am now, in my 4th year!   So to answer your question: my major is a mystery to everyone including me, but it’s something like PhilSci/PoliSci/Cyber and I’m taking 6 classes and I am dying fams.  My college experience is not and will never be normal, and I’ve still got masters/phd to go.  I’ve got a ton of great friends who constantly worry for my wellbeing because I do crazy shit and I am currently taking on the daunting challenge of befriending profs over zoom, who are only half into it. Don’t be me, but go out there and have fun!  College doesn’t have to be all about studying, and while now I’m taking too many classes to do much of anything else in my first few years I joined a ton of clubs and experienced all I could, so just get out there and do your best!

cr.
Fiddling with your phone for a few seconds, you stare at the black screen before unlocking it and finding the text conversation you’ve spent too many minutes of your life smiling over.
As your professor goes on about the importance of choosing the right thesis for you upcoming essay, you keep thinking of JK and what he’s been up to lately. He’s seemed particularly busy.
━ 2:11pm Hope you’re having a nice Friday!
Or you’ve maybe just been particularly annoying?
With a slight frown, you lock your phone and throw it into your open bag, hoping its new location will make you pay attention to whatever Mr. Kim’s trying to teach you. You blush a little when you realize you’ve missed plenty and he’s just about to wrap things up.
“I expect magnificent essays in my inbox”, he smiles goofily before dismissing class with a corny quote about education by John Dewey.
Just as you’re about to gather your things and bolt out of there before Mr. Kim can grab you and question you on your essay’s progress, you hear your phone buzz inside your bag and despite your brain screaming at you not to, you can’t help but fish it out eagerly. It is only slightly embarrassing how your smile dies a little when you realize it’s not from JK.
━ Jung Hoseok 2:13pm Y/N!!! What u up to tonight????
━ 2:13pm What’s your offer?
━ Jung Hoseok 2:13pm Movie with me And Jeongyeon And Jackson
━ 2:14pm ?
━ Jung Hoseok 2:14pm …..and Namjoon
Sighing, you glare at the text messages, thinking about it even though you really shouldn’t. You do have an awful lot of writing to do. Several essays and papers and a quiz coming up first thing on Monday, not to mention the Goddamn mini fest to prepare for since you could literally lose your job if you don’t.
But movie night sounds very nice. Despite the fact Namjoon’s going to be there.
━ 2:14pm Not sure if I can make it……
━ Jung Hoseok 2:14pm Aw come on!!!! What’s more important than preggo gal gadot kicking some serious ass? I sound like jeongie don’t i?
━ 2:15pm lmao yes you do But still not sure tho I have a lot of work to do
━ Jung Hoseok 2:15pm COME ON Y/N Namjoon had a job interview today and he wanted a movie night He would LOVE IT IF YOU COULD COME SO WOULD I
━ Jung Hoseok 2:16pm I’ll bring my caramel popcorn.
Damn Jung Hoseok for knowing the way straight to your heart.
━ 2:16pm To the cinema?
━ Jung Hoseok 2:16pm I neglected to mention it’s at our place Wonder Woman around 6!
Wonder Woman and Hoseok’s famous caramel popcorn is always a hell yes. You're weak.
━ 2:16pm lol alright I’m game
━ Jung Hoseok 2:16pm I ♡ u more than I ♡ jeongie
━ 2:17pm Save it suck up
━ Jung Hoseok 2:17pm Meet me outside yoko’s at 4:30! ♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡
Snorting fondly, you lock your phone and begin gathering your things again, all the while trying not to think of the huge pile of work you’re setting yourself up to die because of when you finally decide to take care of it.
You’re just leaving campus when your phone buzzes in your pocket.
━ Jeongie 3:53pm Hoseok texted me but I can’t make it You going?
━ 3:53pm Why not? And yea i am
━ Jeongie 3:54pm Nothing important Don't break any hearts Nd Joon just had a job interview and he was really nervous about it so dont be rude to him
Frowning, you stare at her messages for a few seconds, wondering what the hell she means by that. ‘Don’t break any hearts’. As if that is something you go around doing on a daily basis just for the fun of it.
And why is everyone going on and on about Namjoon’s interview?
━ 3:54pm What’s that supposed to mean?? And I'm not rude I just don't like the guy Is that a crime all a sudden
You see the little check mark indicating she’s read your messages, but when she doesn’t respond you squeeze the device in your palm before dropping it in your pocket. If anyone's being an asshole it's definitely her.
You feel your cheeks flush with annoyance, so you bury your face in your scarf, hoping no one will take too much notice of the burning cherry shade currently decorating your skin. Not that it should matter, but you always feel a little self-conscious when you don't wear enough makeup to cover something as trivial as blushing cheeks.
When you start to near the entrance to Yoko’s, it’s 4:28pm and you immediately spot a familiar figure leaning against the wall with his arms crossed, looking anything but happy to be there.
“I see you got the text, too”, is your semi-awkward way of making your presence known as you approach him. Saying hi wouldn’t feel right and not saying anything at all would be too rude. Even for you. Even when it involves Namjoon.
He looks up and gives you a nod in acknowledgement. “More like fifty-eight”, he huffs while stuffing his hands in the pockets of his jeans, giving your rosy cheeks a curious glance.
“Yep”, you agree, trying not to blush any more than you already have but his scrutinizing gaze is making it sort of hard. “Sounds like Hoseok.” To have something to talk about, you add; “So how’d your… thingy go?”
He looks very surprised and absolutely elated you knew of it and even thought to ask. “Really good. I think. Well, hope.”
Smiling hesitantly, you nod and kick at a rock aimlessly. “I’m sure you nailed it, Namjoon.”
While you awkwardly bury your face in your scarf again, Namjoon gives you a small smile and a look that is so hard to decipher you don’t even bother trying.
“What?” you ask instead, tilting your head to the side when his smile turns into a smug grin.
“Nothing”, he shakes his head, still looking very pleased with himself.
“You can’t look at me like that and not tell me why.”
He shrugs again, and you watch as the smug grin morphs into an unsure grimace before he sighs heavily and smiles hesitantly again, dimples on complete display, and you’re sort of just impressed with his face there for a second.
“It’s just…” He pauses for a beat or two before giving you a curious look. “How’d you know about it?”
“Hoseok told me”, you shrug, averting your gaze when you realize you’d begun to stare at him. The pebbles on the ground seem interesting enough. “He may have mentioned it when he practically forced me not to study tonight.”
You expect Namjoon to be irritated, or angry. Or maybe both. To say something about what a dumbass tattletale Hoseok can be when entrusted with secrets that are not his own to keep. Anything of that sort, really. But he doesn’t.
“You said my name”, he mumbles instead, cheeks as red as yours and you can’t tell if it is because of the cold winds or what he just said.
“Hm?”
“My name. You said it. Earlier.”
You feel your own cheeks warm when you realize what he’s getting at. “Yeah?” you ask and raise an eyebrow anyway.
“Yeah.” He takes a deep breath and you watch the vapor float around in front of his face.  “You've never actually said my name before. You've called me by my full name most of the time, or just Kim. Or my personal favorite, Kim Fucking Namjoon.” He eyes you wearily, like he’s afraid you’ll get angry. “Never only Namjoon.”
You feel the blush deepen inevitably. What an ass you’ve been. “Oh. I never realized.”
“Yeah, but I don't mind”, he smiles - dimples showing and all - and gives a little nod. “It was just… different. Took me by surprise, I guess.”
There is something you’ve come to realize recently and it’s that when Kim Namjoon smiles, it becomes very hard not to smile back at him. He has one of those dimpled little grins that make other people happy, and you’re its latest victim, it seems. Hesitantly, you offer him a small one back and when his only grows, yours inevitably does too and it’s so… weird.
Just a week ago his smile would make you gag, and now here you are, smiling back at him.
A strange silence falls between you as you stand there in the cold, smiling at one another like awkward lunatics, and you're just about to say something, anything to break the slightly uncomfortable spell when Jackson suddenly comes bumping into you, snaking an arm around your shoulders in a brief sort of half-hug before punching Namjoon’s arm lightly.
“So, what are we all gathered here for anyway?” he asks, eyeing the two of you suspiciously but does not comment on the weird tension in the air. “Couldn't we have just met up at your place like any normal group of people?”
“Probably to carpool or something”, Namjoon shrugs, finally tearing his eyes away from your face. “He’s been very into the whole environmental-”
He gets cut off when the sunshine himself bursts through the doors to Yoko’s, smiling gleefully when he spots the three of you waiting for him just like he asked you to.
“Hello, friends!” he grins, snaking an arm around your shoulders and hugging you close. “Let’s go. I can’t wait to get away from here.”
“I thought Jeongyeon was joining us?” Namjoon asks while the four of you begin walking towards the parking lot around the corner. “She got caught up or something?”
“Sort of”, Hoseok says, while fishing around in his pocket for his car keys.
“How can someone ‘sort of’ get caught up?” Jackson chuckles.
Hoseok lets go of you to continue rummaging through the pocket of his jacket until he finally reveals his key to the rest of you. “She’s just not… feeling it.”
“Oh”, you hear Namjoon mumble under his breath.
“Is she okay?” you ask, feeling a little offended she wouldn’t talk to you about whatever was bothering her.
“She didn’t want you to know about it because she knew you would make a big deal out of it, but she’s at the burger place right outside campus stalking that new burger chef-” Hoseok cuts himself off with a sigh. “No. Enough about Jeongie the traitor. She can take care of herself.” He gives you and Jackson a serious glare and holds up the key in front of your faces. “Who wants to drive?”
You want to object, to ask more questions about your best friend and the mysterious burger chef that has apparently stolen her heart, but you get distracted by the look of panic crossing Namjoon’s face at the mention of the reason for Jeongyeon’s absence.
The thought of him being into her crosses your mind briefly, but you dismiss it as quickly as it appeared. The thought of them together makes you feel… funny. In a way you don’t like, so you dismiss the whole thought and scenario altogether.
Why would you care if Kim Fucking Namjoon likes Jeongyeon? They’d be perfect for one another. Really.
“Ah, so that’s why we met up here”, Jackson nods, grabbing the keys from Hoseok and unlocks the vehicle since no one else would. “Your hate for driving during winter astounds me yet again, Jung Hoseok.”
“Shut up and get in, Wang”, Hoseok mutters, pushing him towards the driver’s side pointedly. “I call shotgun.”
Internally screaming at a certain close friend of yours, you silently slide into the back seat, followed by Namjoon who gives you a small, awkward smile when you’re both seated.
It is no surprise the drive mostly consists of Hoseok and Jackson bantering in the front seat, while you and Namjoon sit in eerily awkward silence in the back - him with his nose plastered to his phone as he fires away text messages like his life depends on it, and you silently watching out of the corner of your eye every now and then. He seems angry, which is something you’d thought Namjoon couldn’t get.
When a text message arrives in your phone with a violent buzz, all of your focus diverts to not smiling too big over the fact it’s from your stranger.
━ JK 4:43pm Do you happen to know how to best break up with a girl without hurting her feelings too bad?
With a slight snort, you begin typing, deciding against asking why he decided that question would be his greeting phrase.
━ 4:43pm Hello to you too lol Is this your way of very unsubtly breaking up with me?
Before you have the chance to second guess your message, it’s sent away and you begin to instantly panic. Was that too much? Too soon?
Too soon for what exactly? It’s not like you’re ever going to even begin thinking about-
━ JK 4:43pm As if that thought would ever even cross my mind Of course not
You can’t help but to smile like a fucking fool. Cautiously, you glance over at Namjoon who still seems too engrossed in his own phone to even pay you any attention.
━ 4:43pm Ok cool lol so what’s up?
━ JK 4:44pm A girl is being annoyingly flirty right now and she seems unable to take a damn hint I’m hiding in the bathroom right now ffs
━ 4:44pm And how is that a bad thing?
━ JK 4:44pm She’s anything but my type! An she’s apparently a friend of my friend lol Help me out pls
━ 4:44pm I’m starting to feel like you only use me for my help and advice…
━ JK 4:44pm No I happen to actually really like talking to u As you already know Getting ur help and advice is only a very nice side benefit
Your heart skips a beat or two in your chest but you completely ignore it, hiding your obnoxious smile with the back of your hand before you type back to him rapidly. You feel a little weird, a little bad for being this happy about him not wanting some random girl’s attention, but nothing about this seems rational or normal to you anyway.
━ 4:45pm Be straightforward and firm and let her know why if she asks
━ JK 4:45pm Why would she ask and what should I say if she does?
━ 4:46pm Idk isn’t that a normal thing to ask when someone tells you they don’t want u?
“Y/N”, Hoseok nearly yells, slapping your knee to get your attention. When you look up to meet his gaze, you find him scowling at you. “Did you manage to get drinks or not?”
Frowning, you answer while distractedly reading JK’s fast response.
“Uhm… Uh, no”, you mumble, typing a quick answer back.
━ JK 4:46pm Point taken So what do I say?
━ 4:46pm Don’t apologize Just say something about not having the time to date or something That’s at least what i would wanna hear
“Sorry.”
“Okay, who are you texting so much lately?” Hoseok asks, but you don’t even think to answer since JK’s familiar image pops up on your newly locked screen. “This is getting ridiculous.”
━ JK 4:46pm Oh that’s actually kinda true Thanks! brb
“Uh, no one”, you smile, locking your screen and hiding it away in your bag, out of reach. “Just school. And stuff with… Mark. Usually Jeongyeon, but she’s apparently busy right now.”
You’ve never been a particularly good liar, but the lies you spew somehow end up flying right past Hoseok as he simply accepts them and turns around with an uninterested shrug.
To your utmost discomfort, you’re not so lucky with Jackson, who eyes you suspiciously through the rearview mirror. Smiling tentatively, you decide to ignore the buzzing in your pocket for safety measures until you make it to Namjoon and Hoseok’s apartment and the movie has started.
It’s 6pm sharp when the four of you finally settle down in the couch, caramel popcorn made, drinks secured with help from Jackson’s roommate whose name is apparently Jaebum that also decided to join the party and your phone is fully charged.
When the intro starts playing, you sneakily fish the device out of your pocket and read over the messages JK sent you while you ignored him.
━ JK 4:49pm It worked lol she didn’t throw her drink in my face Thank you You seem to be a genius in more areas than just the beatles
━ JK 4:50pm This is me confessing you really impress me
━ JK 4:56pm So you help me and then disappear? Cool guess u only use me for your advice and help kink
━ JK 4:59pm that was a bad joke I’m bored pls come back
You hide your smile by sliding further down the couch, burying your face in the pillow you snatched before Hoseok could when you all fought over seats. Eyeing Namjoon who’s the only one you’re sharing the couch with, you relax when you see him too engrossed in the Amazons on the screen to care what you’re doing. Everyone else is on the floor,
━ 6:01pm Sorry lol Got a little preoccupied
You fiddle around with your phone for a few seconds, about to check your social medias when your phone buzzes with an arrived text. The smile is too hard to hide when you realize it’s JK and he’s more than eager to talk to you.
━ JK 6:02pm Welcome back lol Everything good?
━ 6:02pm Yeah ofc I just got distracted prepping for movie night
━ JK 6:03pm Oooh is it one of the good ones? Namely iron man?
Smilingly, you bite into your lip while replying, sinking further down your seat on the couch in the hopes it will hide your ridiculous expression.
━ 6:03pm Wonder woman actually
━ JK 6:03pm That’s a good one
He types for a few seconds after that, so you wait patiently for him to send another message, but when the dots still and stay still for longer than he wrote, you send him a reply just when he decided to send what he was writing earlier, followed by two more quick messages.
━  6:03pm I agree
━ JK 6:03pm But hey I’m real sorry but I g2g Another meeting lol Sort of
Your heart sinks a little, but you tell yourself you have no reason to be upset so you dismiss it completely. There is no reason for you to be sad he has to go.
━ 6:04pm Oh yeah no problem Good luck! Don’t punch people
━ JK 6:04pm Not if it’ll make you disappointed
━  6:04pm It will lol So don’t
━ JK 6:04pm Yes ma’am I really have to go tho Have a nice night Y/N!
An embarrassing blush creeps up your neck to your cheeks at the mention of your name, despite the fact it’s just written in a text and not spoken aloud.
━ 6:04pm You too!!
━ JK 6:04pm Until we speak again
━  6:04pm Until we speak again
━ JK 6:05pm Not too far off in the future I hope :)
“One of these days I’m going to break you phone”, Hoseok mutters from where he sits on the floor in front of you, pinching your toe to show his annoyance.
You lightly nudge him in the back of the head with your foot. “Don’t worry. I’m completely focused on Gal Gadot now”, you say as you lock your phone and hide it somewhere beside you on the couch.
That’s another lie, though, because your mind keeps lingering on a certain JK even when Chris Pine makes an appearance and you try to hate yourself for it - you really do - but it’s getting harder with each buzz from your phone caused by him.  Maybe that’s the very worst part of it all.

2AM’s Jo Kwon says he’s being used as a scapegoat as his reps accept if his degree is rescinded + Netizens comment
2AM’s Jo Kwon as responded to the controversy of another popular idol member having preferential treatment at Kyunghee University where allegations were pointed towards him on Instagram.
You can find his Instagram here
Translation:
“Hello, this is Jo Kwon.
“I entered Kyung Hee University’s department of Postmodern Music in the class of ’09, and although I wasn’t perfect as I was a celebrity, I sincerely tried hard more than anyone else to do my best in my schoolwork just like any other student.
“After four years of work, I graduated from the undergraduate program and received the honor of entering the master’s degree program at the graduate school. I sincerely focused on my master’s program as well, just as I had with my undergraduate program, but the results that came back after my graduation have been very perplexing to me as well. During my time at graduate school, there were professors who recognized my sincerity about my schoolwork, and professors who wouldn’t recognize it even if I worked harder than anyone else. In other words, there were people who judged me as a celebrity instead of a student. I had that difficulty due to the special nature of my job, but thankfully, many of my professors and students liked me. I thought that I had shed the distinctiveness of being a celebrity and been recognized for my sincerity.
“I do not want my university life, which was filled with my hard work and passion, to be stained because of my distinctiveness as a celebrity. I thought that I am the same as everyone else. I think that that is something anyone can empathize with if they are a student that is passionate and sincere about their studies. The fact that I graduated from Kyung Hee University’s undergraduate and graduate programs and received degrees was not the result of my status as a celebrity. I worked hard to complete the assignments given to me by the school. As I write this, I feel very upset over the fact that I am in a situation where I have to explain this. I sincerely completed my undergraduate program in the Postmodern Music department, and my sincerity and passion for my studies were acknowledged to the point that during my undergraduate program, I received a scholarship.
“In regards to my graduate school graduation, which has become a controversy, at the Kyung Hee University Art Fusion Design graduate school, students can choose from two methods of confirming their graduation, which are a thesis or a non-thesis (graduation performance) evaluation. I applied for a non-thesis evaluation and graduated, and took part in the evaluation on the day of the thesis evaluation. Through the recent incident, I have learned about the description of preferential treatment particular to those who work as celebrities.
“It is truly a shame that rumors and gossip are inevitable for celebrities and that this kind of explanation is needed. I am aware that there are currently various conspiracies and conflicts between the department’s professors. Isn’t your power struggle that began in the name of getting rid of internal corruption by pulling it out at its roots ruining your own students and school? I’m even a student and pupil who studied hard during those professors’ classes. Is it the fate of a celebrity with popularity to be unable to have even the minimum amount of rights?
“How could you have made this a topic of the news and how could you have caused hurt in this way.. You say that to graduate, you have to do a graduation performance that costs tens of millions of won..? At my final thesis evaluation, when I brought posters and pamphlets about my graduation performance, I was not told of any department rules about the non-thesis (graduation performance) evaluation by the professors who were in attendance at the evaluation. When I submitted the related documents of confirmation to the administration as well, I was not told about rules within the department about the graduation performance and did not receive guidance that this went against the rules. If I had known that, I of course would have done a performance that met those rules.
“A student that graduated in 2016 through a performance has said that rules created by the professor in charge then were not rules shared with the school’s administration or other professors. For reference, when I graduated in 2017, the professor in charge then was not the same as the professor in charge in 2016. Also, if a performance doesn’t cost tens of millions of won, is it a lackluster performance..? It is not possible to confirm the related rules on the home page of the Art Fusion Design department. There was also no mention of the department’s rules during the thesis public announcement application or even when I applied for the non-thesis evaluation. I applied under a non-thesis (graduate performance) evaluation in accordance with the application qualifications for non-thesis evaluations that were posted on the home page. I know that in addition to me, other graduate students did not know about these rules. If there were published rules, we would have known.
“I thought that I had fulfilled all of my duties for my graduation in 2017 that were given to me by the school.
“Throughout my time at graduate school, I did my studies while doing my best. I knew that in my last semester I could choose between doing a thesis and doing a non-thesis evaluation in order to graduate, and as there was the qualification requirement that said I could choose the non-thesis evaluation, I chose the method that was the best for me.
“Regarding the regulations that were described as strict by the student who previously graduated through a graduation performance in the news interview, only the thesis application and non-thesis evaluation application forms were posted on the the school’s undergraduate notice board, and only the qualifications to apply for the non-thesis evaluation were posted, with no information about the graduation performance. Then can there really be department rules that the professors in charge who were present on the day of evaluation and the administration department aren’t aware of?
“It was done under the title of busking, and busking is a performance done in a free style. Because I didn’t put tens of millions of won into the performance, I couldn’t perform in an extravagant way.
“During my graduation evaluation announcement, when I was doing a presentation to my professors, I asked for their understanding about the performance date, and I was told to submit the video later on for the professor’s verification, with no one saying anything about me not being able to graduate if I did it in this manner. The Busan photo I uploaded on May 6 was one that I uploaded after going there on May 5 and already returning. It’s true that I did the performance in the Kyung Hee University Peace Open-Air Theater, and it is not a manipulated video. In the open-air theater with 8,000 or so seats, I did not use lights or large parts, and since I was doing a small-scale performance to submit to the professor, I was not aware that I would have to make an inquiry to the school.
“It was not only me but also the students who I was in the master’s program together with who did not know about these regulations. If these had been official published regulations that all of the graduate students in our department had known about, since I’m not a fool, I would have spent tens of millions of won in the preparation for my graduation as per these regulations.
“However, all I did was prepare for my graduation sincerely according to what the school had told me. Studying diligently is of course the duty of a student, and you cannot simply graduate just by studying diligently. To the reporter who reported through SBS8 News, you thoughtlessly used the performance video of the student who graduated in 2016 without their agreement and said tens of millions of won hadn’t been spent, but what are the exact regulations that even the school doesn’t know about? I received information from fellow students at my school, and I have both a recorded tape of a professor saying there are no regulations and a screenshot of the graduated student in the report saying that the reporter had exaggerated too much when he wrote the report.
“Anyone could tell that the reporter and professors’ focus was about a deeper part of the school internally, but if you just look at today’s news, why do I have to become the sacrificial lamb..? To the reporter who exaggerated when he wrote his article, I don’t know if the general public will just see the sensational article and react to how it seems, and I really don’t know about anything else, but I believe that my fellow students from my university and graduate school days and the professors whose classes I took so diligently know more than anyone else that I sincerely did my best at school as a student and not as a celebrity.
“Also, the fact that my time at university has in a single moment become ‘lackluster’ and ‘manipulated’ is so painful.
“I sincerely apologize for causing concern to many people.
“Since I first heard that there would be an article coming out about me, I’ve been preparing to share my view. I’m so sorry that it seems like the staff of my former agency and current agency had to make difficult statements. I was worried that things would be distorted so I didn’t do any interviews. Before I posted this message, I thoroughly checked with a department professor once again about the details and regulations, as well as checked that graduation from the master’s program was determined by the judgement of a professor’s evaluation of a thesis, and also have the evidence from the students that the stated regulations do not exist. That is why I am clearly sharing my position now.
“When I was preparing for my graduation performance, no one explained to me about the regulations. I thought that the preparation process I was carrying out was the normal process. I thought that Kyung Hee University would make a statement first, but as they haven’t, I’m posting about how I feel for those people who are frustrated.
“Although I am lacking, I will continue to do my best to have a good influence, but the current reality in which I can’t do anything in front of unseen authority is such a shame.
“As Cube Entertainment’s statement said, no matter what the results are of my mistake in regards to the later submission of the video, I will humbly accept it. However, I did not do a lackluster performance and I sang with all my heart. I sent a video to the school in the way I had been told. Isn’t it too malicious to say that I filmed it in a manipulated way?
“If I look back on my life including before I became a singer and after, I thought that I’m doing well. Rather than thinking that I need to do better, I’ve thought that I’ve done well to have done this much. Once again, I apologize for having caused concern to many people.
“To the reporter who made the report, you found out my number somehow and called directly a few days ago several times. Of course as a reporter, the exaggerated contents would have come from someone at the school, but you don’t know the deeper story.
“There may be people who believe the contents of the report, but what was the exact goal you wanted to achieve through a report that was founded on a rumor from within a school? Even I don’t know if the part I know is just a rumor or the truth. All that is clear is that the situation in the school is not normal right now, and it’s a fact that students and certain celebrities are becoming sacrificial lambs.
“Since I feel that this is unjust, I wanted to object to the local news reporter’s pen and ability to write, but I hope that you will stay true to a reporter’s conviction of unyielding to objection.”
Source: Sports Donga via Nate 1. [+1,074, -40] Let's be real, he's not the only one out there. He just got unlucky and was caught. Celebrities get perks everywhere. 2. [+1,023, -26] The amount of army evasion in the industry is too severe 3. [+952, -75] I knew there were too many stars with master's and doctorate degrees. How can they be deserving of these degrees when they've never even put out a thesis? Why are there so many comments supporting him when he should be getting into school on his own merit? All he's done is shatter the hopes of students actually deserving of these degrees. Please return your degree and take the punishment that's due. 4. [+46, -1] ㅋㅋㅋ When 'Infinity Challenge' was poking fun at Haha's master's degree, I didn't think much and just laughed along but now I realize it was so he could postpone the army and get into public service. 5. [+33, -2] Most celebrities who are postponing service until 30 years old are obviously getting into graduate school for the sole purpose of that so why is the army turning a blind eye to this? Please shut down all the schools that are allowing this. Source: Star News via Nate 1. [+1,785, -130] From Jo Kwon's perspective, I can see how this must suck for him... I'm sure the truth will come out but if what he's saying is true, it's going to be hard for him for a while... Not sure about the rest but I'm sure Jo Kwon really worked hard in school. Find strength!! 2. [+1,205, -67] He's right, though. Aren't most of the idols who are in college right now in it for the same reasons? If you're going to target one of them, you should target them all. 3. [+144, -7] What Jo Kwon's saying is that there were never any rules and he was never notified about his thesis. If it's true, then yeah, it sucks for him. It's obvious even with Jung Yonghwa's scandal that there's no rule to follow in this school. Even the professor went to interview Jung Yonghwa personally... If there were rules set in place for these things, none of this would've happened. It's wrong to accuse him of breaking rules that never existed. 4. [+131, -9] The one that's in the wrong here is Kyunghee University. Not that I'm saying Jo Kwon did anything right but we need to get to the root of the issue and it seems like the school and their professors are the bigger issue here. It feels wrong to put all the blame on the celebrities instead. 5. [+93, -9] Yup, he's right, if we're going to dig into this issue, we need to uncover all the celebrities, not just target one... Source: Naver
1. [+13,923, -285] It does seem like there are parts to this scandal that is unfair to Jo Kwon. All these celebrities keep getting pinpointed by the media but one of the attention is on how rotten the school is but more on ruining the image of the celebrities. 2. [+11,218, -185] This is a laughable school ㅋㅋ Well Jo Kwon claims he has recordings and everything so just release them... you can tell how angry he is by his words 3. [+10,037, -375] Sounds like he has every right to be mad by his post 4. [+1,940, -80] He's always been a hard worker, I sense something genuine from his post 5. [+1,781, -56] The target should've been on the school all along instead of the celebrity in question
